GCSD Mini Grants
Garfield School District Mini-Grants
Garfield School District received an unexpected one time allocation from the Garfield County Treasurers Office per their auditor’s adjustment recommendations. With these additional funds, the School Board suggested to have the teachers in the District apply for a “Mini-Grant” to request classroom supplies or materials the teachers could utilize in their classrooms to improve the daily academic instruction. All teachers in the District had an opportunity to apply for the Mini-Grants. A District committee to assign a priority ranking to each application reviewed the Mini-Grants. The School Board approved the funding for the first round of Mini-Grants in the last Board meeting. Mini-Grant applications that directly impacted student achievement in the classroom received higher priority ranking. There were 41 Mini-Grants who will receive immediate funding and approximately an additional 25 Grant applications will be reviewed at a later date. The funding ranged from $1,000 to $10,000 per class depending on the request. The Mini-Grants will provide approximately $186,837 to be utilized directly by the teachers to improve the classroom instruction. I am excited about the opportunities the Mini-Grants will provide to students; particularly when it comes to infusing the classrooms with technology. If you would like to see a complete list of the Mini Grants that received funding, please visit the Garfield School District web page at http://www.garfield.k12.ut.us/then select the District Office tab, and choose “Superintendent’s Corner” to view this article with a complete list Mini Grant projects.
